i wish there were a free and open source 'integrated unified communications server' that spoke ostatus, xmpp, and email with other servers.
-
... and SIP
-
#SIP is not really an option. everyone says that, but do i really have to pay 50 dollars a month for residential sip service?
-
@lnxwalt289 I don't know SIP from sipper cups
-
@coyo There are some SIP extensions that do NAT forwarding. I think ICE is going to replace them, though (and same on XMPP).
-
@lnxwalt280: #ICE would be cool #NoPunIntended but it still doesnt completely make #NAT a non-issue.
-
@coyo If you don't want to connect to PTSN, you don't need to pay as much. I admit that I prefer paying unless I run my own server.
-
@coyo Indeed. I don't think anyone but Skype and Joel Spolsky's Copilot have solved NAT penetration very well.
-
the problem lies in the architecture. relying on central servers is a huge mistake by design. central servers are the problem.
-
right now, i just want something that's private, secure, and that works. i want something that works, and makes it impossible to intercept
-
#ekiga is also full of fail. "Could not register: Globally not acceptable" means absolutely nothing to me.
-
the solution is to aggressively penetrate NAT using tricks like that used by #pwnat or more aggressive.
-
@coyo Solution to google or twitter
